Select Demo was contracted by Wise Construction Co. to perform the interior demolition and abatement of this 97,000 SF, 9-story commercial building within the Fort Point neighborhood of Boston. Select’s demolition scope included: interior, selective demolition of all floors (basement - 9th fl.); removal of numerous skylights from the roof; extensive saw cutting and excavation in the basement; removal of concrete for a new mechanical and elevator shaft. The asbestos scope included: removal and disposal of the asbestos black coating found on rooftop structures; removal and disposal of miscellaneous hazardous building materials, such as mercury-containing light bulbs and DEHP containing ballast. Select’s scope was part of a larger project that converted the existing approximately 97,000 square foot office building at 51-61 Melcher Street to life science use.
