Select Demo was contracted directly by Consigli Construction Co. to perform the partial take down of this former 70,000 SF, 4-story school, while retaining the front end of the school and the facade. This project entailed asbestos abatement, hand separation/demolition and the full take down of approximately 60% of the existing school. The asbestos abatement for full takedown portion included the removal and disposal of existing VAT/mastic and associated asbestos topping slab. Also included was the removal of asbestos rubber gym flooring, piping, windows, roof flashings and interior/exterior caulking. The remaining portion of the school included the removal and disposal of asbestos VAT/mastic, piping, windows and miscellaneous caulking. A unique part of Select’s scope included the shrink-wrapping at the back side of the façade scheduled to remain to allow for the protection from weather prior to being dried in by the new construction. Select’s scope also included strategic shoring of the façade.
