Project Value: $150,000 - $200,000

Select Demo was contracted by JF White Contracting Co. to perform the demolition of the MBTA East Cottage Street and Norfolk Avenue bridges, both built in 1906. Both bridges are being replaced with updated steel infrastructures to improve safety and reliability. Select’s scope included the removal of the structural steel and required portions of the backwall; steel girders were picked via crane from the road below; substructure (backwalls) were sawcut (30" depth max from each side of backwall) at the phase line; protection of existing bridge substructure to remain (i.e. backwall, abutment top/face, etc.). This was an accelerated schedule where demolition activities took place on two weekends to allow for the structural upgrades of the 117 year old East Cottage Street and Norfolk Avenue bridges, located between Boston's Uphams Corner and Newmarket stations, that carry the Fairmount Line through Roxbury and Dorchester, MA.
