Medford Housing Authority - Saltonstall Building Modernization, Medford, MA

Select Demo was contracted by Consigli Construction Co. to perform abatement services for the Medford Housing Authority’s Saltonstall Building Modernization Project located in Medford, MA. Select’s scope consisted of the removal and disposal of asbestos-containing materials in this 300,000 SF, 11-story, 200-unit partially occupied public housing building. The majority of Select’s work took place on floors two through eleven, with miscellaneous scope being performed on level one. Select’s abatement scope consisted of the removal of asbestos-containing VAT/mastic, joint compound, and gypsum wallboard, pipe insulation, flashing, and window and expansion joint caulking. Work was phased over 34 months. Built in 1968, the Saltonstall Building is an affordable rental housing facility for seniors and individuals living with disabilities. Renovations include the replacement of existing plumbing, electrical, and ventilation systems; replacement of masonry façade and replacement/removal of balconies; correction of design deficiencies related to the façade; full modernization of all building interiors and apartment finishes; and remediation of materials throughout the development.
