Select Demo was contracted by Consigli Construction Co. to perform the complete demolition and asbestos abatement in Boston Housing Authority’s Mildred Hailey Housing Development located in Jamaica Plain, including Building 14 (31,200 SF - basement and 3 floors), Service Building (22,800 SF and 2 floors) and 125' Stack. The asbestos abatement scope consisted of the removal and disposal of asbestos flooring, windows, pipe insulation, three asbestos boilers, as well as asbestos damproofing on the foundation of Bldg. 14, which was performed utilizing a Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection Nontraditional Workplan. Select’s scope also included the removal of the slab on grade and below grade foundation walls, while the foundation walls and footings that conflict with and/or undermine sidewalks or abutting properties will remain. This project will lead way to the construction of two six-story buildings that will include 223 affordable and moderate-income apartments, a new Anna Mae Cole Community Center and ground floor commercial space.
