Select Demo Services, LLC was contracted by Consigli Construction Co. to perform demolition and asbestos abatement in support of the continued expansion of MathWorks’ Lakeside Campus in Natick, MA. Headquartered in Natick, MathWorks is a global technology company and leading developer of mathematical computing software used by engineers, scientists and researchers worldwide.

Select’s scope included the complete demolition and removal of a five-story, 125,000 SF steel, concrete and brick structure, including foundations, as well as selective demolition of interior and exterior finishes at the adjacent LSM building. The original abatement scope included asbestos-containing pipe threading above the first-floor ceiling.

As demolition progressed, additional suspect materials were identified and tested, revealing asbestos-containing waterproofing behind the brick façade and dampproofing on the foundation walls. As a result, the brick façade and foundations required specialized handling and were bulk-loaded and disposed of as asbestos-containing material.

Select successfully adapted its demolition means and methods to address these unforeseen environmental conditions while maintaining close coordination with Consigli and MathWorks. All demolition and abatement activities were completed in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements within the active campus, supporting the continued expansion and redevelopment of the Lakeside property.
